Upon the conclusion of the Easter Egg, the number one request from Insiders was to turn the surfing game into an endless runner as the permanent “offline game” for Microsoft Edge. Upon reaching the end of the game, Insiders were treated to the world’s first look at the new icon for Microsoft Edge-two days before the official reveal. Insiders followed a series of cryptic hints and puzzles in the run-up to Microsoft Ignite 2019 which eventually led them to unlock the hidden surf game using Collections. If you are not connected to the internet, Microsoft Edge will also provide a handy link to the game to help you pass the time.Īn early version of the surf game originally debuted in November as part of a special Easter Egg. To catch the wave, simply navigate to edge://surf in the address bar. With three distinct game modes, players have a variety of ways to pass the time. Surf as far as possible in an endless ocean, compete for the shortest time, or zig zag through as many gates as you can in a row. Watch out for the kraken! Players can also collect hearts to extend their lives and boosts for a burst of speed. Inspired by the classic Windows game SkiFree, the surf game challenges players to ride through the water while avoiding islands, fellow surfers, and other obstacles. The game, which has been available for Insiders since late February, is now available for everyone to play in the latest Stable channel release. Starting with build 83.0.478.37, users can now play a surfing-themed game in the new Microsoft Edge when they’re offline or by navigating to edge://surf. Lastly, Microsoft is adding a dedicated Games menu in Edge that provides access to casual games. As soon as you close the game, Microsoft Edge will exit Efficiency mode and get you right back to where you left off,” Ben-Zur explained. “With this feature, you do not need to close the browser to play and reopen it when you are done. The new Efficiency mode, which can be enabled in Edge’s System and Performance Tab, will also reduce the browser’s resource usage when a PC game is launched. It uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream,” explained Microsoft CVP Liat Ben-Zur. “Clarity Boost is a spatial upscaling enhancement that makes streaming games look clearer and sharper while playing in Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and 11. The new Clarity Boost is probably the most important update coming to Microsoft Edge, and it will make the web browser the best option for playing cloud-enabled Xbox games on the web. If you’re signed in with your Xbox account, you’ll also see a widget showing recently played games you can launch via Xbox Cloud Gaming. It features news about video games, game guides, live streams, tournaments, and more. The new gaming homepage is accessible from the Gaming header in the navigation bar at the top of the New Tab page. The new additions include a new Gaming tab on Edge’s New Tab page, a Clarity Boost feature for Xbox Cloud Gaming, as well as a new Efficiency mode. Microsoft has started rolling out some new gaming features for Microsoft Edge, which the company had detailed earlier this month ahead of its Xbox games showcase. ![]()
